Giants Sent the Packers Packing Up from the Superbowl

Publicado  Martes, Enero 24, 2012

A shocker indeed has happened when favored team Green Bay Packers was defeated by the New York Giants 37-20 to set up an NFC Championship game at San Francisco next week.

The reigning champion, the Packers, were favored to retain the Vince Lombardini Trophy but was unfortunately outplayed from the start with Giants quarterback Eli Manning outdueling Aaron Rodgers, for whom the vaunted Giants pass rush made life especially difficult.

Earlier on Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens ousted visiting Houston 20-13 and they will now play New England in the American Conference final at Superbowl Sunday.

The winners of next Sunday’s games will meet at Superbowl Sunday XLVI at Indianapolis on the 5th of February.

Manning’s favorite target was Hakeem Nicks, catching seven passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns. The Giants' defenders forced four turnovers as the hosts, who went an NFL-best 15-1 this season and averaged 35 points a game, were ousted in sub-freezing cold.
"It shows our hard work and determination," Nicks said. "We're peaking right when we need to. We're stronger than we have been all season."

The head coach of the Green Bay Packers Mike McCarthy was baffled by his team’s performance.
“We did not play to our identity,” he said. “The biggest thing was self-inflicted wounds, dropped balls. We left some yards on the field.
“We did not do a very good job handling the football. No excuses. We practiced well. There was nothing in preparation that led me to believe this was going to occur.”

Baltimore's Joe Flacco threw two touchdown passes against Houston but, despite its good record against New England, Ray Lewis says his team will head to Foxboro as underdogs after the Patriots routed Denver 45-10 on Saturday.
"What they did to the Broncos, they sent a message to whoever was coming up there," Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis said. "We have to be ready for them."
Lewis managed to have a team-high seven tackles and the Ravens forced four turnovers, there were two interceptions by Ladarious Webb, setting up 17 points and spoil the first playoff trip in the Texan’s 10-year history.

With the score at 17-13 at half-time, the only addition in the second half was a late Baltimore field goal, but Ravens coach John Harbaugh took a measure of pride in this when addressing his team afterwards.
"Nobody holds onto a four-point lead in this league like that except the Ravens," said Baltimore coach John Harbaugh, whose brother Jim coaches fellow final-four franchise, the San Francisco 49ers.

What the Hell is Superbowl Sunday?

Publicado

Probably one of the most festive Sundays in the United States, Superbowl Sunday is also known as Super Sunday where it is the day the Super Bowl is played. A lot of people gather to watch Super Bowl and such gatherings are known for the large amount of food that is consumed by people who attended.

It is also the most watched annual television program in the United States, as a certain portion of the nation follows the same routine on Superbowl Sunday. Though not an official holiday, there is a number of commentators who refer to it as a holiday because of the fact on how it causes families and friends to gather and celebrate together.
Many Americans who are not typically football fans will still gather and watch the game. Stores and shops are often found empty, especially in the regions represented by the two teams playing in the Super Bowl.

The increasing size of home televisions have compelled most of them to watch at home and people who visits bars to watch the Super Bowl has decreased. It is also due to the fact that there are a lot of budget conscious consumers and they are also increasing since the economic crisis has begun.

A few commentators agree on the idea to make Superbowl Sunday a national holiday, because of its capabilities to unite Americans of difference races, religions and even economic classes. For secular Americans, it has been characterized as a “holy day”. Churches would even sometimes cancel their afternoon or evening services for Superbowl Sunday while others would hold football-themed charity drives or deliver sermons designed to appeal to male members of the congregation. Other churches are known to host Super Bowl viewing parties and evangelize during half-time.

In recent years, the NFL executives have called for a three day weekend to allow fans to celebrate the wonderful event.
However, some NFL fans are found to be depressed on Superbowl Sunday if they found that the team they’re rooting for was eliminated from the NFL Playoffs while others are manic and ecstatic when they know that their favorite team is going to the Superbowl.

This is a special day for most Americans and also a day to celebrate, relax and watch some game. Cheering for your team even if you are just at home with a popcorn with your whole family is definitely a wonderful day.

The Ravens to go to the Superbowl Sunday?

Publicado  Huwebes, Enero 19, 2012

Teams to go to the Superbowl Sunday are still quite a mystery but it doesn’t mean you should lay your handicapping skills to rest. The former Baltimore Raves coach Brian Billick said that the Ravens will go to the Superbowl Sunday, saying that the chances of them being there is very good when he appeared on “The Norris and Davis” on 105.7 The Fan on Tuesday to talk about the chances of Baltimore making it to the Superbowl in Indianapolis next month.

Billick also predicst that the Ravens will play the Green Bay Packers for the title.
“We’re making a,” Billick said, realizing he said “we” he rephrased his sentence. “The Ravens are making a championship run and they are in the think of it. I’ve got the Ravens going to the Super Bowl. They’re going to beat Houston. I think they can go in and beat New England. I want Ray Lewis on that football field.”

He also told the hosts Ed Norris and Steve Davis that quarterback Joe Flacco will be the largest key to beating New England. But Billick, who coached the Ravens to a title in 2000, believes Flacco won’t have to do it all himself.

“Normally, when you size up the playoff pool, it’s what? Rank the quarterbacks,” Billick said. “You rank the quarterbacks, you rank the team. But there’s an interesting dichotomy. In the AFC, obviously at the top of the pyramid is Tom Brady. I don’t think anybody would argue that and no disrespect to Joe Flacco, but no one is going to pick Joe Flacco over Tom Brady. But there’s no question the Baltimore Ravens are a more complete team.”

Billick also belives All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the defending champs will advance from the NFC.

“Put my hand to the fire, yeah, I think it’s going to be Green Bay in the Super Bowl,” said Billick, a TV analyst for FOX and NFL Network. “We have kind of forgotten how well Aaron Rodgers has played because he has been off the map for a while. … New Orleans is certainly capable of going in and beating Green Bay. We’ve seen that. They can run the ball. But at the end of the day, I just think the Green Bay Packers have the pedigree, the confidence and you got to go through Lambeau Field, so I think it’s Green Bay and Baltimore in the Super Bowl.”

Free Superbowl Picks with a Handicapping System

Publicado

The Super Bowl is a really huge event and more money is actually bet here than any other sporting event in the United States. There aren’t a lot of reliable free Superbowl Picks but with a handicapping system, you too can predict who the winner is and bet on it!
We present a very simple handicapping system where you won’t need to read through the free Superbowl picks online since they can sometimes be a little bit suspicious at times. With your own system, you don’t have to wait and rely on any systems and free picks.

Let’s start with our Super Bowl Handicapping System:

*Unless noted, use stats for regular seasons only.

1. If a team has won a Super Bowl in the last 3 years then award that team 10 points.
2. Award 8 points to any team whose Opponent is playing in their very first Super Bowl in Franchise history.
3. Award 8 points to the team that has allowed the fewer defensive rushes.
4. Award 7 points to the team with the best OVERALL win/loss record including playoffs.
5. For the team with the most offensive rushes, award 7 points to their score
6. Give 5 points to the team with the lower defensive rush average per carry.
7. For the team that has the best net kick-punt Touch Down returns, 4 points should be enough.
8. Additional 4 points to the team with the better ATS record.
9. For the team who have achieved a superior NET Penalty yards, award them 4 points.
10. Give 3.5 points for the team that has the best yards per pass attempt.
11. 3.5 points should also be given to the team that has given up the fewest points.
12. For the team that has allowed the fewest rushing Touch Downs, give them 3.5 points.
13. For the team that has most sacks, 3 points is good as an award.
14. Award 2.5 points to the team with the fewest offensive pass attempts.
15. Award 2.0 points to the team that had the best NET punts (total) on the year.
16. Award 1.5 points to the team with the best average per offensive rush.
17. Teams with the best completion percentage will get 1 point as an award.

The stats for this year’s games won’t be given, that would be like taking the fun out of the game. The trick here is that you wager on the team with the most points according to this system. This is very helpful since it doesn’t consider any emotional attachment to any team and only relies on stats.

This system claims it was tested over the last 39 Super Bowls and has a record of 33 – 4 – 2.
